Our first Midlands Patient Day was held at the Charles Hastings Education Centre, Worcester Royal Hospital, on Saturday 8 April 2017. It was organised with great support from the colorectal nursing team of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, which includes hospitals in Worcester, Redditch and Kidderminster.
Thanks to our sponsors, Merck, Coloplast and Ethicon, we were able to host 180 people, including bowel cancer patients, their relatives, colorectal and stoma nurses, speakers and exhibitors.
Our guests enjoyed a great day of education and support. plus the opportunity to chat to other people affected by bowel cancer. The delegates were able to watch a choice of presentations and take part in interactive workshops on the physical and emotional effects of bowel cancer, practical advice on healthy living during and after treatment, a keep fit session, a carers’ workshop, advances in surgery and treatment, and much more. We were all inspired by our two patient speakers, Sheena Wilson and Wayne Smith, who shared their stories and explained how they are coping with life after a bowel cancer diagnosis.
Thank you also to the lovely stoma nurses, dieticians and chemotherapy nurses who were on hand all day with reassurance and advice.
Please see a list of the organisations who exhibited at this event here.
