Chris Penny is a nurse who has worked in Cardiology, Cardio-thoracic Medicine and Surgery at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, before moving to Brighton to work in Gastroenterology (Endoscopy) and, currently, Bowel Cancer Screening. He has always been interested in alternative therapies, both on a personal level and also to support his patients. Chris is qualified to Diploma level in Holistic Body Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Hands Free Massage, Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology, Health & Safety and First Aid. Live Better With has a mission to make everyday living better for people with cancer. Together with the cancer community, we have curated 500+ products that offer support beyond medical treatment. These products bring relief to the symptoms and side effects that come from treatment (chemo, radiation, surgery), help equip the home, and promote positive wellbeing. Uniquely, the Live Better With site is organised by how someone might be feeling, e.g., “I can’t sleep” or “I feel sick”. The Macmillan Financial Help Team provides a holistic telephone based financial support service for people affected by cancer. Two teams of specialists work together; one providing guidance on all areas of personal finances including mortgages, pensions, insurance and estate planning. The other provides advice and information on benefit entitlements, help with energy costs and grants. We use the evidence from our services to try and improve access to financial support for people including benefit entitlements and financial services.
The Odyssey Project Odyssey enhances the quality of life for people with cancer through programmes of adventure based mainly in the outdoors. Using the stimulation of uncertainty and surprise Odyssey takes participants on a five day journey aimed at combating the psychological and emotional devastation caused by their illness. By supporting people to overcome appropriate challenges (some of them physical, others creative or artistic) Odyssey helps people rebuild their confidence and regain their zest for life.
