Alan Glasswell has volunteered for us since his wife Janice passed away from bowel cancer. Janice had been working with Beating Bowel Cancer to campaign for fair access to drugs for cancer patients in Scotland.
Alan, 41, a chef who lives in Stewarton, Ayrshire, felt he could carry on her legacy by campaigning and helping us to raise awareness.
“Because of my personal connection I have a great satisfaction from helping as it means other bowel cancer patients will not go through what my wife went through,” he says.
“I will give my time to help out whenever needed. I have manned awareness stands and as a Decembeard Ambassador I’ve helped to recruit people to grow beards and fundraise with me. I’ve also organised press releases and a meeting with Kilmarnock FC to raise the profile of Decembeard.
“To anyone wanting to get involved I would say it is fun and inspiring. I really enjoy it and the help makes a big difference to charities as they rely on the help of volunteers.”
