Take on this ever popular trek for Beating Bowel Cancer in 2011 and experience one of the most breathtaking trekking routes in the world. This adventurous trek takes you on a journey along peaceful mountain trails, through remote farmlands and villages, and on trails which offer sensational views of snow covered mountain tops.

This is the perfect trek if you are adventurous and looking for the experience of a lifetime. We walk for five days, followed by a day at Machu Picchu where you can explore the ruins and sit and enjoy the splendour of the site from the Sungate.

The weather and terrain

Weather in the mountains can change quickly and without warning. The day time temperature should be somewhere between 6-20 degrees celsius. The temperature can dip below freezing at night and you will be advised to bring a 3-4 season sleeping bag. Most days should be dry and bright, with the chance of rain showers. You will be sent a full kit list upon registering for the challenge so you are fully prepared for the climate.

You will be walking over undulating terrain with very few flat sections. The trek takes us up and down wide mountain passes and you will need to have good fitness to fully enjoy the experience.

This is an open challenge meaning that people from other charities will also be taking part.

Registration fee: £399
Sponsorship target: £3500.

80% of your sponsorship money needs to be received by Beating Bowel Cancer 10 weeks before the start of the challenge. The remaining 20% should be received no later than 1 month after your return.
