Mark Flannagan
Chief Executive
Mark joined Beating Bowel Cancer in July 2010. Immediately prior to that he was Director of Policy and Communications at the Royal College of General Practitioners. Mark has a background in a number of high profile organisations including the Royal College of Nursing, Diabetes UK, the BBC and the homelessness charity, Crisis. Mark started his career working for Action on Smoking and Health, lobbying for a ban on tobacco advertising and a ban on smoking in public places. Mark Flannagan has also been a Trustee of Groundwork, the sustainability and regeneration charity. He has a degree in Medieval History and a love of baking cakes and scones!

Lilian Wiles
Head of Patient Services

With over 25 years' nursing experience, Lilian's career has spanned a wide variety of clinical settings, including inpatient, outpatient and community healthcare settings within the NHS. Lilian joined Beating Bowel Cancer in April 2010, and loves being part of such a dynamic and committed team. As part of her role as Head of Patient Services, Lilian explores every opportunity to raise awareness of the disease, promote uptake of screening and effective early diagnosis. Away from work, Lilian loves spending time with her husband, 3 children, and the mad family dog, Rosie. She is also a qualified Reflexologist.
Holly Rolfe
Nurse Advisor

Holly joined the charity in July 2010 as an agency nurse advisor for the summer months. She enjoyed her time here so much that when the permanent position for nurse advisor arose she was keen to take it up. Holly qualified with an advanced diploma in adult nursing in 2004, from Southampton School of Nursing and Midwifery. She has worked in Community nursing and Urology, Vascular, Colorectal and GI surgical nursing. Alongside the other nurse advisors she is responsible for responding to patients' emails, telephone calls and Facebook posts.
Louisa Heliard
Nurse Advisor

Louisa has a nursing degree from Sydney University, and has nursed in various settings including several years in an Endoscopy unit. She has been a Nurse Advisor at Beating Bowel Cancer since 2009. Louisa ran her first marathon this year when she took part in the Virgin London Marathon in support of Beating Bowel Cancer.

Fundraising
Rebecca Tyrrell
Events Manager

Rebecca joined the charity in February 2010 and has worked in the not for profit sector for three years. With a background in health and human rights she has previously worked in fundraising events for a leading International Development Charity and a UK HIV charity. Rebecca manages all of our events and works with event participants offering advice, support and guidance during their fundraising. In her spare time Rebecca likes to run and completed her first half marathon in 2010.
Karen Dawson
Trust and Major Donor Manager

Karen joined Beating Bowel Cancer in June 2008 and is responsible for Major Donors and Grant Making Trusts. Karen has worked in the voluntary sector for 10 years following a career in the commercial sector. In this time she has worked for various charities including Dyslexia Action and St Raphael's Hospice. She has a Certificate in Fundraising Management from the Institute of Fundraising. Outside of work Karen enjoys windsurfing and mountain biking.
Miriam Lightbown
Community Fundraising Manager

Miriam joined Beating Bowel Cancer in January 2011 having previously worked at Dementia UK and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Miriam is responsible for managing all aspects of community fundraising including supporting fundraisers, so if you wish to do your own fundraising, please get in touch with her! In her free time Miriam can be found either singing with the choir Harmony on Heels or cheering on her favourite rugby union team, Leicester Tigers.
Finance and Administration
Charlotte joined Beating Bowel Cancer in June 2011, having previously been Head of Finance at Diabetes UK. She began her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, specialising in the public and not for profit sectors, and is a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA). She is a graduate of both Bristol University and University College Dublin, where she studied Economics and developed a taste for Guinness!
Charlotte occupies a new role in the charity, working three day a week, and is responsible for the day to day finances and operations of the charity. She currently lives in Twickenham with her husband and daughter and volunteers locally for the National Childbirth Trust.
Phil Abraham

Phil joined the Charity in 2006 with responsibility for all financial and Company Secretarial matters. With many years' experience in producing accounts and management information for organisations large and small, Beating Bowel Cancer was his first foray into the charity sector, but he finds it very rewarding, as well as challenging! In his spare time, Phil plays baritone horn in the Denham Hendon Brass Band.
Jo Garnham
Office Manager

Jo joined the charity in 2007, having spent several years working for international companies and then as a conference organiser. She ensures the smooth running of the office and, conscious that every pound raised is precious, makes it her mission to get value for money. Jo is also responsible for the quality and consistency of the charity's publications and our Information Standard accreditation.
Louise Doughty

Louise joined the charity in 2009 having worked in finance for many years. Louise assists with the charity's finance and general office administration. Outside of work, Louise is a trained volunteer counsellor and psychotherapist.

Kate Philipson

Kate joined Beating Bowel Cancer in December 2009. This is her first role in the not for profit sector, prior to which she worked for agencies for six years specialising in healthcare PR. Kate manages the Press Office, edits the newsletter and works closely with Anita to raise the profile of Beating Bowel Cancer both via the media and in parliament.
Anita Ralli
Advocacy & Public Affairs Manager

Anita joined the charity in 2011. Her background includes ten years working in Westminster, and she joined us from the Food & Drink Federation where she specialised in health policy. She is responsible for raising the profile of Beating Bowel Cancer amongst our key health and political stakeholders. Anita also leads Beating Bowel Cancer's work to influence policy, to improve the lives of people living with cancer.
Angela Cummings
Digital Development Manager

Angela initially volunteered for Beating Bowel Cancer whilst studying for an MA in Charity Management. On completion of her degree she joined the charity in 2009 and is currently responsible for the charity's website, social media, e-communications, online marketing and fundraising. Angela looks forward to talking to you on our Facebook & Twitter pages. Outside of work Angela is kept busy by her three children.
Paul initially began working for Beating Bowel Cancer as a volunteer while in-between jobs and liked it so much that he ended up staying. He is responsible for the enhancing, updating, supporting and training for the internal database and accounting systems while providing additional support to Angela and all round IT “tips of the day” for the whole office. Outside of work Paul is a keen footballer, squash player and recent gym member while also studying Anatomy & Physiology at St Mary’s College.
Health in the Workplace Coordinator

Nicola joined the charity in June 2009 and is responsible for arranging talks to organisations as well as managing the relationship with our volunteer presenters. With a background in sales and support within corporate financial services in London, this is her first role in the not for profit sector. Nicola works for the charity 3 days a week and when not at work is a keen allotment holder, so is always keen to share vegetable tips with our supporters.
