Policy
Being heard and influencing change
A key role for Beating Bowel Cancer is to actively work with governments across the UK to ensure that the right policies are in place to improve bowel cancer treatment and care. We work with politicians, government officials and advisers to make the case for effective programmes that make tackling bowel cancer a priority. In making the case we draw on the experience and evidence direct from patients.
This section gives an overview of the policy areas in which we work, with documents including consultation responses.
What we do:
In the past few years the importance of cancer policy has gained increased attention. A number of key initiatives such as the Improving Outcomes: A Strategy for cancer (Jan 2011) have been published which have contributed to bowel cancer being driven up the political agenda. We also respond to various government consultations and you will find these below
Past submissions and evidence can be found in our policy library.
Engagement with politicians
We regularly produce reports and briefings for MPs to keep them updated on bowel cancer issues and to call for improvements in bowel cancer services. Our most recent publications include:
The Bowel Cancer Challenge: three steps to saving lives
Beating Bowel Cancer works closely with several key MPs and Peers, who have joined our Parliamentary Voices group.
This group are committed to the bowel cancer cause, and work with us to raise issues at a government level, whether through asking parliamentary questions or tabling Early Day Motions, or carrying out inquiries to look in more detail at specific areas of concern.
We currently have around 30 members of the Parliamentary Voices group. For more information on the group, or if you are an MP or Peer who would like to get more involved with Beating Bowel Cancer, contact Anita Ralli, Policy and Public Affairs Officer, on 020 8973 0004
