Patient Day 2012
Saturday 28 April, 2012

The purpose of the day is to empower patients to meet the challenges they face and encourage a wider public awareness about bowel cancer. We will celebrate patients’ achievements and help to make a positive impact on their lives by giving the opportunity to learn more about living as normal a life as possible, for as long as possible.
Who is the event for?
- Patients, their families and carers
- Health professionals and clinicians working directly with people affected by bowel cancer
The programme
The main programme starts at 9.45 with registration from 8.45. The day will include varied and thought-provoking presentations and interactive workshops, on topics such as: innovations in bowel cancer treatment and research, metastatic disease, the emotional and psychological impact of bowel cancer, living well beyond a diagnosis, managing long term side-effects, getting the best from your care pathway, relaxation and much more.
Download the provisional programme.
Keynote speakers
The keynote speakers will be our Patron, Professor Lord Ara Darzi, Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Imperial College Hospital and Baroness Delyth Morgan, Chief Executive of Breast Cancer Campaign.
One-to-one advisory consultations
Patients can book free one to one consultations with specialist colorectal nurses and experts on many aspects of bowel cancer – including side-effects of treatment, family history, financial issues.
Information and advice hall
At the heart of the event, allied health and lifestyle specialists will be on hand to showcase new products, devices and technology that are relevant to the needs of people affected by bowel cancer. They will be interested to talk to you and learn from you and your experiences, and will be able to offer information and advice relating to their services. Responding to the feedback from last year’s event, our exhibition this year will include:
- Stoma care
- Skin care and personal appearance
- Surviving with style – headwear and clothing
- Diet and nutrition
- Exercise and staying active
- Specialist insurance and financial services
- Innovation and technology

Meet up with your online friends
We have an amazing online community of patients and relatives who chat to each other and provide support through Twitter and our online forum. Our Patient Day will be a great opportunity for you to meet up with your online friends. We will be holding a 'Tweet meet' during the morning coffee break for you to meet and chat to your Twitter friends and a 'Community catch-up' in the afternoon coffee break for you to meet up with those that you have met through our online forum.
Meet the Beating Bowel Cancer team
The day will include an opportunity to meet the Beating Bowel Cancer team and find out more about the work we are doing to support bowel cancer patients and families.
