Sister Nicola Forsyth, a colorectal nurse lead Taunton & Somerset Hospital and Lynne Higgins, a colorectal specialist nurse at Kings College Hospital in London, were presented with Beating Bowel Cancer’s prestigious Carol Baillie nurse award in the House of Commons last week, as the charity launched its annual national awareness campaign BE LOUD! BE CLEAR!  Ann Keen MP – Parliamentary Under Secretary for Health and a former nurse – presented the awards, which recognise the hard work of two specialist colorectal nurses every year.

Both Nicola and Lynne were nominated by patients for their hard work and dedication.  On receiving the award and £1000 training grant, Nicola Forsyth said, “I am delighted to have been nominated for this award by my patient Annie. It was a great honour to have been invited to the House of Commons to receive the award. I plan to use this grant to pay for my masters degree in Nursing Studies.”  Nicola is pictured (left) with Annie Lanigan.

Lynne Higgins added, “I am just a small part of a team which works incredibly hard to provide a first-rate service for bowel cancer patients. I feel very honoured to win this award and would like to thank my patient Jo Michie for nominating me.”   Lynne is pictured (right) with Jo.
