Thank you to our supporters
Our individual fundraisers get up to anything and everything to raise money for Beating Bowel Cancer! Remember to let us know if you have organised an event for the charity, so that we can feature your story here too!
The staff of Clinimed and SecuriCare, who provide ostomy care and colostomy supplies, raised an amazing £3033 for Beating Bowel Cancer through a variety of fundraising activities in 2009.
In September Abbey Crawford took part in a sponsored car rally from High Wycombe to Zurich. On World Ostomy Day other staff organised a fashion show in the middle of High Wycombe's Eden Centre. 15 people from the local area took part as models, all of whom had stomas.
£1000 was raised in lieu of sending Christmas puddings to stoma nurses (many thanks to the nurses for this festive offering!). In addition, several departments held dress down days and other money was raised through donations.
One of our Patient Voices, Sue Judge, is pictured receiving a cheque from the Customer Care team.
A big thank you to all the staff!
Heather Wynter has raised more than £20,000 over three years by holding an annual bike ride in her local area of Ashford, Kent. Heather and her father Jim Poynton are both bowel cancer survivors, and with the help of friends and family have grown the event each year – in 2009 they had 200 cyclists taking part! A huge thank you to Heather for organising such a fun and successful fundraising event.
Experienced trekker Dawn Jones took on a huge challenge when she trekked through Patagonia in Chile, witnessing stunning glaciers and turquoise-blue lakes. She raised an incredible £3,500 and said the experience was wonderful.
Gail Birch led a group of over 100 ‘Santas’ on their annual fundraising pub crawl in Manchester last December. The group raised £559, as well as keeping the crowds entertained! The group also handed out leaflets and stickers, to help spread awareness of bowel cancer and its symptoms.
Terry Whitaker organised a hugely successful garden party and art sale to raise funds for Beating Bowel Cancer. As well as lunch and coffee, guests were able to buy paintings and sculptures created by Terry and her friends. A percentage of the sales came to Beating Bowel Cancer and a raffle on the day also boosted funds, brining the total to a fantastic £760.15!
Danny Carter and his friends cycled a ‘home to home’ route from his mum’s house in Ickenham to his own in Crewkerne, Somerset. The bike ride was in memory of Danny's Dad, who sadly died from bowel cancer. The group raised an amazing £3,013.40.
A team of 10 walkers and 2 drivers led by Sam Neil and Tom Clifton completed the 6 Peaks Challenge in summer 2008. This involves walking to the summit of the highest peaks of the Isle of Man, Wales, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, all within 72 hours! They raised £1,184, and successfully finished the challenge with just 36 minutes to spare! A great achievement.
