Health in the Workplace

Health in the Workplace is a service available from Beating Bowel Cancer taking vital information about the disease direct to company employees in their place of work.

The aims of the initiative are:

To raise awareness of bowel cancer within the workplace setting
To provide information on:
- the prevalence of bowel cancer
- the symptoms of bowel cancer and early warning signs
- preventative measures they can take to reduce their risk (healthy eating etc)
Encourage discussion amongst colleagues of an often ‘difficult to discuss’ subject
Increase awareness and understanding of the importance of the national bowel cancer   screening programme.

These aims are achieved by organising a ‘Health in the Workplace’ event. By prior arrangement with Beating Bowel Cancer, a representative from our charity, who has been directly affected by bowel cancer, can come to your organisation and give a short talk about bowel cancer to your employees. Our presentation, including a short video, will take approximately 30 minutes and is designed to be easily fitted into the working day.

The video, presented by ITV's 'This Morning' celebrity GP Dr Chris Steele, communicates the potentially life-saving facts about bowel cancer, including symptoms to look out for, and easy steps that people can take to help protect themselves against the disease. We will also provide your employees with written information, outlining the key facts that are highlighted in the video.

We are pleased to be able to offer this service free of charge to companies. If you are interested in Beating Bowel Cancer visiting your organisation please contact Nicola Keeble, Health in the Workplace Coordinator on 020 8973 0013.
